U2 in Morocco!

Filed under: Breaking News — taamarbuuta @ 4:21 pm

The View from Fez questioned why Bono has been seen wandering the medina of late; USA Today confirms that popular band U2 is currently in Fez recording an album. This is not the first visit to Morocco for U2 - their 1991 video “Mysterious Ways,” directed by Stephane Sednaoui, was filmed in Fez.

The View from Fez suggests that perhaps they are also here to see the World Sacred Music Festival - I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s indeed true. Here’s hoping that The View manages to catch up with Bono!

Bono certainly surprised everyone at Essaouira Gnaoua and World Music Festival 2007 when he made a guest appearance with the Band of Gnawa (Louis Bertignac, Loy Erlich, Akram Sedkaoui, Cyril Atef and Maalem Said Boulhimas).

Bono and the band played old rock standards like Come Together (The Beatles), Who Knows (Jimi Hendrix and The Band of Gypsies) and Immigrant Song (Led Zeppelin), You can hear all of these and much more music from the Essaouira 2007 festival on my channel at http://uk.youtube.com/DaftNotStupid

I’d like to apologise for a big mistake when I said that Bono appeared with the Band of Gnawa at Essaouira 2007. This was due to a misunderstanding on my part when Akram Sedkaoui was introduced (in French) as “according to Bono having a golden voice”. I was at a distance from the stage and my eyesight isn’t as good as it was, an I just heard the word “Bono” and jumped to the wrong conclusion. Sorry for the mistake. In this case its more of StupidNotDaft - maybe I should rename the channel. For a viusal representation of this, please see http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=F2KgBt1Iw6Q.
