Israel’s involvement with the “Western Sahara autonomy plan”

Filed under: Politics, Sahara, African issues — taamarbuuta @ 10:13 pm

I post this article without any bias*: “Morocco, Israel to form unholy alliance.”

I post it mainly because it comes from an Oslo-based Africa news site which, while terribly interesting, lacks real information on the Maghreb countries. On the other hand, please check out the satire page. I particularly like this image:

*to be clear: I meant without any of my own bias!  That is not to say anything of the article’s bias!

    Hi,

Afrol is comparable with the polisario’s ARSO whitch is based in Switzerland and handmade. It is pro-polisario and really biased! Sorry for being so rude, but why should we think that afrol News is rliable because it is based in stockholm?!

The article you’re citing is so biased that they make of Jerusalem the capital of Israel. Which is not: Israel’s capital is Tel Aviv.

    Greetings, amina

    Sorry Oslo, Norway…

  3. lady macleod Says:

    too funny!

on another subject: Do you know where I can buy the english Moroccan newspaper from Casablance in Rabat?

    if things were that simple…
i wish they were normal diplomatic relationships between Morocco and Israel, if for nothing, to keep the tiny ties with the vanishing Moroccan-Israeli community. If that helps in the sahara file, it’s better.
Telquel reports that what was mistaken as secret emissaries was in fact in order to elect late Mohamed V as a “Righteous Among the Nations”

I don’t know, lady mcleod, but here’s the newspaper’s e-mail address: casaanalyst@yahoo.fr - they’re pretty timely with responses, even to my students who wrote.

  6. taamarbuuta Says:

@Amina - I posted it without my own bias because I thought it was just worth sharing, not because I liked the article. I don’t particularly agree with the article at all, actually.

  7. xoussef Says:

@Amina: dn’t know how biased Afrol is, but actually, Israel’s capital is Jerusalem, no matter if we like it or not.

  8. taamarbuuta Says:

Amina, xoussef is right - although most embassies are in Tel Aviv, Israel claims Jerusalem as its capital.

  9. Amina Says:

    Good evening,

About Jerusalem: sorry, but the United Nations security Council does not. Do you have any idea about the number of embassies present in Jerusalem? One: El Salvador…

  10. taamarbuuta Says:

CIA Factbook says Jerusalem, but gives explanation as well. Perhaps the US recognizes it but the UN does not?

  11. xoussef Says:

it doesn’t matter international community doesn’t recognize it. US and all other countries could have their embassies in Tangier if they like it, as long as the parliament, the prime minister and other ministries are located in Rabat, it’s still the capital of Morocco.
Wikipedia says: “a capital is the principal city or town associated with a country’s government. It is almost always the city which physically encompasses the offices and meeting places of the seat of government and fixed by law.” quite clear huh?! ^^

  12. taamarbuuta Says:

Wikipedia is not a reliable source. Nor is that true - the capital of the Netherlands is Amsterdam, but government is in Den Haag. Clear, but not correct.

  13. taamarbuuta Says:

Addition: I don’t read well. Wikipedia says, as you quoted, that it is ALMOST always the city which physically encompasses the offices, etc…

    Almost always. Exceptions: Israel, Netherlands.

  14. xoussef Says:

you win a point, ^^ you can also add the case of Bolivia with La Paz and Sucre. but in both cases, it’s not the will of international institutions that states what the capital is. the two countries chose to mark a capital in the constitution and keep political power in another town, witch is not the case of israel.
Israel has no constitution but a bunch of basic laws that states that Jerusalem is the capital and seat of the Knesset and the government.

  15. taamarbuuta Says:

But Jerusalem is still the capital, do we not agree?

Regardless, I was just peeved at the lack of reading ability of posters who believed that I was siding with aforementioned particular article.
