That’s a great interview Jillian and well done. I’ve focused very little on the plight of the Amazigh (Berbers) but I resent the oppression and marginalisation they have had to endure because of virulent Arab nationalism. It reminds me of something Shariati said on how the French occupation ensured that the few elites who were educated were exposed mostly to Rousseau and other nationalist writers. Nationalism was used to divide countries which had previously been united under religion.

Thanks Wassim! Unfortunately, both the Moroccan and French press seem to want to keep the plight of the Imazighen a domestic issue.

Of course in other countries such as Iraq, religion is being used to divide a country that had been united under nationalism. Imperialism knows many ways to maintain its grip on its former colonies it seems :)
